Directions to Vinegar Creek -Salmon River Launch

From our shop you will go South on US 95 for little less then a mile and turn left crossing the Big Salmon Rd Bridge on the Main or Big Salmon River Road. The famed Riggins Rodeo grounds will be on your right side after the bridge. About a mile after crossing the Bridge, the Main Salmon River will be on your left side. You will cross the Lake Creek Bridge, drive by the Spring Bar boat ramp and cross the Manning Bridge on your way. You will know you are at the boat ramp because you cannot go any further–it is the end of the road. You will see a parking lot with boats and other vehicles. Also, look for a sign that says “Vinegar Creek Boat Ramp”.
The road is narrow in areas so if you come to another vehicle, one of you will need to pull over and let the other by. The road is paved for about 12 miles and then is a maintained dirt road the rest of the way. Be aware of rocks and wildlife in the road. Your total mileage to the ramp from the Mill Bridge is 26 miles. GIVE YOURSELF ABOUT AN HOUR TO REACH VINEGAR CREEK BOAT RAMP from the City of Riggins!

Directions to Pittsburg Landing – Hells Canyon Launch

Go North out of Riggins on U.S. 95 towards Whitebird. About 30 miles out you will come to mile marker 222. If you are coming from the Grangeville area, go South on U.S. 95 about 12-13 miles, about 1 ½ miles south of Whitebird. There is a sign there saying “Hammer Creek Recreation Area & Pittsburg Landing”. Turn left here! Turn right if you are coming from Whitebird/Grangeville area.

Go about 1 1/2 miles until you go over a metal bridge. Turn left directly after the bridge.

There is a sign that says “Pittsburg Landing–17 miles”. Follow this maintained dirt road to the summit (great photo stop!) where you will then drop into Hells Canyon. Follow the winding road into the marina! Keep in mind, this is quite a steep grade into the canyon, so be aware of using your brakes and we advise you to “gear down” to avoid brake overheating.
