Are you ready to embark on the trip of a lifetime? Prepare for your weekend on the water in Hells Canyon by packing everything you might need; consider this handy list of items every angler should pack for a long fishing trip.

Drinking Water

When you’re out on the water all day, it can be easy to get caught up in fishing and forget to hydrate. However, dehydration is a serious health hazard, especially when you’re in direct sunlight for an extended period. Bring plenty of fresh, drinkable water on your trip—we don’t recommend refilling your water bottle with Snake River water.

First Aid Kit

Before you set out to do some Hells Canyon fishing, check your first aid kit to ensure it’s fully stocked. Keep sterile bandages, disinfectant wipes, ice packs, and seasickness pills in your kit. Take the time to restock between fishing trips.

Sunscreen

No matter how warm or cold the weather is, the sun’s UV rays still pose a danger to your skin. Bring along a bottle of sunscreen with an SPF of at least 50, and reapply every hour or two. Sunburns are painful and distracting, and too much unprotected sun exposure can increase your risk of skin cancer.

Camera

The Snake River is home to a wide variety of fish species, all of different sizes. In fact, many anglers have caught record-breaking fish here in Hells Canyon. Bring a camera, or use the camera on your smartphone, to capture photographic proof of the amazing fish you catch.

Remember:

Some fish in Hells Canyon, like the mighty sturgeon, must be released after you catch them. If you want to brag about your catch, snap a few photos before you let it go!

Rain Jacket

When it comes to fishing attire, you’ll want to be prepared for changing weather and excess moisture. Dress in multiple thin layers, including a waterproof windbreaker or rain jacket to keep you warm and dry. Fishing in wet clothes puts an unpleasant spin on an incredible experience, so you should dress to stay as comfortable as possible.

Get the most out of your long fishing trip in Hells Canyon by preparing for every possibility. These items every angler should pack before their trip will help you stay safe and comfortable as you enjoy your time on the water.
